By necessarily need to leave France to travel! We must not forget that we live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The Alps in particular offer the opportunity to have an unforgettable experience in nature. The Ecrins National Park is the scene of a particularly popular with hikers route, the GR54, also called Tour de l'Oisans and Ecrins.
Background hike
The Ecrins National Park is the fifth largest in France. This is a park mountain in the Alps. The highlight of the course is the Col de Aup Martin, located 2,761 meters above sea level.
Hiking route
Hiking over ten joursPlusieurs starting points are possible, but it is usually done in the town of Bourg d'Oisans. The route forms a loop of 176 km around the Ecrins. On several occasions, he crossed the Ecrins National Park. On the course, it is possible to discover many mountain lakes.
The first hour walk from Bourg d'Oisans to Alpe d'Huez is not necessarily lesp interesting read, many are taking a bus to the resort of Alpe d'Huez and start their treks to level- the.
duration
To make the complete loop of 176 km, it takes ten to twelve days of walking. There is a shorter route for those that do not have as much time.
Level of difficulty
With over 12,800 vertical meters and 176 miles to go, we must admit that the difficulty level is high. This course is primarily suitable for experienced hikers. However, the highlight being only 2761 meters, there are not too many concerns to be relative to altitude sickness and breathing problems that can affect some hikers in the mountains.
budget
Difficult to easily evaluate since it depends primarily on your way to travel. If you sleep in shelters or refuges and expect to be fed by your hosts, it can quickly be very expensive. However, if you use a tent for your hike and you prepare your own food, the trip will not cost you much.
when to go
In the spring, or even in July if the winter was tough, there may be still a lot of snow on the highest mountain passes. It is therefore recommended that this hike from mid-July to mid-September. It is also possible in October but the night will be cooler, the sky overcast and generally most closed shelters.
strength
The landscape is very varied. We cross many hamlets, you meet herds on some trays and discovered some particularly beautiful mountain lakes. And we're constantly surrounded by beautiful mountains ...
My personal experience
I made the choice to do this hike in Bivouac and alone, a big first for me. No problem with the tent and bivouac. One night I made the mistake of "sleep" in a river for many practical aspects. Contrary to what you may read here and there, it does not effect the lullaby and discomfort terribly! The other night was very nice. Finally, I have three market days, about 22h, from Bourg d'Oisans to Monétier-les-bains.

The weather, very nice the first few days, was deteriorating and I was not well enough equipped for difficult conditions. Especially, I also realized that hiking solo on several days was not necessarily what broke me the most. I love hiking, but I prefer to clearly share those moments with someone else. I'm definitely not a loner.
